'Law & Order- SVU' veteran Richard Belzer moves to recurring status

Longtime Law & Order: SVU actor Richard Belzer is moving to recurring status on the show as his character, Sergeant John Munch, is retiring.

Belzer has been with the show during all of its 15-year run, and has been portraying the character for 20 years - beginning with Homicide: Life on the Street, another series in the Law & Order universe. Over the years, Munch appeared in over 450 episodes.

Next week's episode will feature the character's retirement party. However, a source says not to say goodbye to Munch forever, as "Belzer is expected to make recurring appearances on the long-running NBC drama."

SVU airs Wednesdays at 9pm on NBC.
