Laverne Cox rose to fame last year for her role in the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black, and now she's writing her own memoir about growing up transgendered.

The book deal is through Harlequin and will deal with Cox's struggles growing up, the road to becoming an actress and the work she's done in the LGBT community.

"Laverne Cox is a powerful, accomplished actress and a beacon of hope to countless people of all ages around the world. The story of her life to this point is nothing short of an inspiration," said editor Rebecca Hunt in a press release announcing the news.

Cox originally made history on VH1's I Want To Work For Diddy, where she was "the first African-American transgender woman to appear on an American reality show."

She would later go on to produce her own VH1 program, TRANSform Me.
