Lady Gaga to mentor the American Idol 10 Top 4 for 'Leiber-Stoller' week

I'm really excited for this! Leiber-Stoller are two of my favorite composers ever! They composed 'Jailhouse Rock' and 'Hound Dog' for Elvis!

Who am I kidding? WTF is this??? Why are we getting music from the '50s? Is this some sort of forced history lesson just because Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery are teenagers? What. The. Effffff...
And don't get me started with Lady Gaga.
I think FOX is pandering to Idol's core audience: the teenagers of the '50s. This is the third week where the theme is a variation of "old songs". Why did they lie to us in the beginning of the season that they want to keep the show "current"? I can't take these lies anymore!
Ultimately it boils down to: old standards are easier to sing, and therefore Haley and/or Scotty can run away with it and sound 'amazing'.
From USA Today:
Next week on American Idol, Lady Gaga will mentor the remaining contestants. But it's a something old, something new kind of week: The final four also will pick songs from the catalog of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, best known for tunes they wrote for '50s hitmakers like the Coasters (Searchin', Yakety Yak) and Elvis Presley (Hound Dog, Jailhouse Rock) and the Drifters and Ben E. King (On Broadway, Stand By Me).
