Lady Gaga to host SNL

Lady Gaga lives for the applause -- and, apparently, for the laughs.

The "Applause" singer is set to make her debut as a host on Saturday Night Live for the show's upcoming 39th season, following in the footsteps of other musicians such as Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars in showing off her comedic chops as a host on the sketch comedy series. In addition to hosting, Lady Gaga will perform as the episode's musical guest. NBC, however, has yet to confirm when Gaga's appearance will air.

Lady Gaga has appeared twice before on the show, but both appearances were as a musical guest. However, in both of her previous appearances -- in 2009 and 2011, respectively -- the singer appeared in several sketches with respective hosts Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake. Her cameos included a memorable Deep House Dish sketch that pit the singer against Madonna.

Lady Gaga is in the middle of a major media blitz surrounding the release of her new album ARTPOP on November 11th. The album’s first single, “Applause,” is currently #4 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

The 39th season of SNL premieres on September 28th on NBC.
