Kid Nation - Episode 02 - To Kill or Not to Kill?

The town decides! Will we have chicken tonight??? (Evil laugh)

Kid Nation: So no more crying and being homesick, and it's time to get to town business. After a couple of days, the kids realize that well... they need protein! Kids need protein to grow! So they put it to a vote: to kill or not to kill the chickens. I don't know, if they really wanted protein maybe they could have let the chickens work overtime and lay more eggs -- but then again, some of the right to life activists might emerge from the group (ok, I'm getting ahead of myself). At any rate, they decide to kill 2 chickens. Much to the disdain of chicken activist Emilie, who decides to protect the chickens by tying herself to the chicken coop. Woohoo! Civil disobedience at age 9. It's pretty amazing how the writers were able to pull this off. I kinda felt sorry for Emilie. I hope she was not too traumatized in the presence of these barbaric 10-year-olds. Ultimately hunger won out, and Emilie and her friends agree to put 2 chickens to death. Blood is in your hands kids.

Greg emerges as the town bully who will do anything for money ($20,000!) In fairness, he did butcher 2 chickens, much to the horror and excitement of the younger kids. But the council felt that he was not sincere in his efforts to help the other kids. Nice. So instead, they give the gold star to Michael who was responsible for getting the town water after the pump froze over.

For the next episode Greg intends to get back at the council for not giving him the gold star. Yikes. Mike and Anjay you must protect Taylor! LOL
