Kevin McHale & Kelly Osbourne Will Not Host 'The X Factor'
Simon Cowell says Kevin McHale and Kelly Osbourne will not host season 2 of The X Factor. Simon confirmed that they are planning to hire a male and a female co-host and he hopes to be able to make the announcement sometime this week.
Mchale and Osbourne had previously been reported as front runners for the currently vacant The X Factor hosting job, but in this interview with Celebuzz, Simon has confirmed the pair are off the table. Does that mean recent reports that Khloe Kardashian is the new front runner for job are true? If so, who will get the guy's half of the job?
If the rumor mill is to be believed, we could be seeing a Jonas brother or possibly even Mario Lopez in that role. I'm starting to wish they'd just bring back Steve Jones. They could have just as easily given him a co-host, but I guess he must have pissed Simon off too much.
In other news, Simon reinforces the claim that season 2 of The X Factor is putting the emphasis on "telling the contestants story through the contestant's eyes and not the judges or the producers."
He adds that he doesn't want The X Factor to be like Idol and season 2 is almost like starting all over again and says he is in "different territory," with his approach to season 2.
Unlike some of The Voice judges, who have admitted that their show is about making good t.v. and not necessarily about launching careers, Simon says there is "no point" to doing one of these shows if you aren't trying to find a "star." He then points at One Direction as an example of how The X Factor makes stars.
For someone who is trying hard to convince us that his show is nothing like American Idol, the "we make stars," rhetoric sounds awful Idolish. However, I will say that Cowell and his Syco label, plus L.A. Reid's Epic Records label seems to have a better recent track record than Interscope and 19E.
