Kelly Rowland discussed "Dirty Laundry" with Beyonce before releasing it

Kelly Rowland has had a bit of a rough road back to the spotlight following the breakup of Destiny's Child, and her initially underwhelming solo career.
The R&B singer has channeled much of that conflicted energy into "Dirty Laundry," an emotional song that details Rowland's struggles with domestic abuse and professional jealousy. More specifically, jealousy of former Destiny's Child bandmate, Beyonce.
Rowland (who co-wrote the song with The-Dream) sings through the pain: "While my sister was on stage, killing it like a motherf--ker / I was enraged, feeling it like a motherf--ker / Bird in a cage, you would never know what I was dealing with / Went our separate ways, but I was happy she was killing it / Bittersweet, she was up, I was down". It plays like a raw evocation of one woman's regretful resentment. However, in an interview with a Washington Radio station, Rowland reveals that she approached both Beyonce and third Destiny's Child groupmate, Michelle Williams, before releasing the track.
Apparently, Beyonce's reaction was positive. "[She] was just like, 'I never left.' Which was so sweet. It was endearing," said Rowland. "She heard how real I was and she was just like "I’m so proud of you.'"
Her reconciliation with Beyonce has provided closure for the singer, who broke down while performing the song at a recent concert in Washington, D.C.
However, the reunion of the group has led to a resurgence in Rowland's career. Not only has she signed on to become one of the newest judges on The X Factor USA (following a brief stint on its UK counterpart), but she's also gotten back into the studio with her Destiny's Child groupmates, who contributed to Rowland's track, "You've Changed".
Rowland's album, "Talk A Good Game," is out June 18.
