Kelly Clarkson Says She Would Never Judge 'American Idol' - Video
Kelly Clarkson says "I would never do that," when questioned about being a judge on American Idol during an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Kelly talks to WSJ's Lee Hawkins about how she has managed the ten years of her career after winning season 1 of American Idol, as part of the Pepsi NFL Anthems kickoff Eve. I love this interview. Kelly seems to have such a good mind for business and shares some really great advice for aspiring musicians.
Kelly says that she agreed to do Duets, because she could "be a part of the process," but doesn't think she would be a good judge on American Idol because she is better at showing people what to do than telling them. I guess that would explain why she decided to take up the role of "mentor" on The Voice last season.
Kelly also reflects on her post-Idol career, saying that she never imagined how much the music industry would want her to "be a robot," and that much of the focus of her career has been on maintaining control of the type of music she puts out and avoiding being pigeon holed into one specific type of music.
Kelly's top advice to aspiring artists is to "surround yourself with the kind of people that you are, because that means that your product and your life will be how you want it to be.”
I think that's actually pretty good advice for life in general. I'm really impressed with Kelly's perspective on the whole thing and this interview kind of makes me wish for her to join the panel of The Voice. I think she would make a great coach for a young aspiring artist.
