Katy Perry To Headline Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show (VIDEO)

The NFL and Pepsi have made it official: Katy Perry will headline the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show on NBC, airing live from the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015. The confirmation was made globally in a media announcement of such cultural penetration, you'd think there were announcing she'd been elected president.

Not only did an official press release verify the news, but Perry herself acknowledged the story on her Twitter during the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants. Bob Costas then followed it up by announcing the news to TV audiences at halftime of the game, before following up with the premiere of a video from Pepsi hyping Perry's appearance. It basically amounted to a trailer for the big show, and featured Perry comically going over some "ideas" for her performance. Lastly, Pepsi's "There Since The First #Halftime" commercial was re-released and set to Perry's "Firework," because when Pepsi picks a Halftime Show artist, they go all in. Of course, using the "all hands on deck" media announcement for this particular purpose makes sense, considering the Super Bowl Halftime Show is the most-watched musical event of the year, and one of the highest-rated events on TV altogether. It's the very epitome of "a big deal," to whatever TV network is lucky enough to get the rights to the big game.

NBC, NFL, and Pepsi haven't announced any further details, but viewers are encouraged to keep it locked on NBC during the lead up to Super Bowl XLIX for more details on Perry's big performance. Until then, you can check out the announcement video from Pepsi below:
