Katy Perry and Victoria Beckham to Guest Judge American Idol

The fourth judge lives!

Peter Rice, the chairman for entertainment at Fox Broadcasting, told a meeting of the Television Critics Association on Thursday that the popular series will seek to replace Paula Abdul this season with a permanent fourth judge rather than return to a panel of three judges.

For the audition rounds, which begin this weekend, “Idol” will employ various female pop-music stars as guest judges, Mr. Rice said. Among them will be Victoria Beckham (a k a Posh Spice) and the singer Katy Perry.
