Katy Perry accused of ripping off Sara Bareilles - Brave/Roar - MP3 Listen

With the release of "Roar," the first single off of Katy Perry's upcoming Prism album, the internet has gone into a frenzy, suggesting that Perry ripped off the track of another singer-songwriter.

AV Club reports that fans and critics alike are comparing the similarities to "Roar" and Sara Bareilles's song "Brave," claiming that Perry lifted segments of her new track from "Brave" completely. Naturally, one wonders why fans are in an uproar over two pop songs sounding alike, given the litany of similar-sounding songs in any given year, nevermind throughout pop music history. But there is at least an argument to be made for the similarities between the two songs when compared side-by-side. Soundcloud user MixmstrStel 2 even went so far as to lay the tracks over each other to further illustrate the similarities:

Katy Perry has yet to comment on the accusations, but if nothing else, but some feel it's simply an issue of the internet community blowing things out of proportion. Either way, at least we got a pretty cool mashup out of the whole ordeal.
