'Jupiter Ascending' Pushed Back to February 2015
One of the most anticipated movies of the summer has been Jupiter Ascending, the latest movie from the Wachowskis -- a space epic starring Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum. But it looks like we won't be getting it this summer after all.
Jupiter Ascending has been suddenly pushed back from July 18, 2014, to February 6, 2015. Though Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow, which co-financed the film, have not offered an explanation just yet, insiders say the delay is the result of extensive visual effects work that the film still requires. While I suppose it's better to be safe than sorry, with regards to visual effects, it's stunning to learn that the effects aren't done (or worse, aren't up to snuff) when the film was due to be released in just one month. One would think Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow would have made the call a bit sooner, but I guess they wanted to give the VFX team every opportunity to meet the deadline, which just ended up not being possible.
What's more worrisome for the studio is that the film was the subject of mixed buzz internally, which doesn't bode well for the film, despite previous successes with the Wachowski siblings, who made the Matrix films with Warner Bros. It looks like we'll be waiting over half a year to finally see the tale of a house cleaner who learns she's a galactic princess, and the elf-eared alien tasked with protecting her. You can tide yourself over with the latest, full-length theatrical trailer to see what all the buzz is about. Or you can check out the teaser, embedded below, and decide whether this delay is a decision you hate:
