Coroner Reveals that Julia Roberts' Half-Sister Committed Suicide
Officials have confirmed that Julia Roberts' half-sister Nancy Motes committed suicide and did not die of a drug overdose as originally assumed by her family.
In a statement released yesterday (May 14), the Los Angeles County Coroner revealed that the 37-year-old ingested "multiple drugs" before climbing into a bathtub on Feb. 12. She drowned as a result. Motes (who worked on Glee and as a dog walker) was found in the home of a client by her fiance John Dilbeck, along with a suicide note that mentioned her painful relationship with Roberts. At the time of her death, Julia announced in statement that her sister had died of a drug overdose.
After Roberts was blamed by Dilbeck for not helping her obviously troubled sister, Dilbeck was not invited to his fiance's burial.
"It's devastating," he lamented. "She was the love of my life, and this would have been our wedding month."
Once he learned of the report, Dilbeck said in a statement, "This is proof that Julia was manipulating the truth in terms of what happened. She persisted that this was just a drug overdose and that Nancy was a drug addict."
"I want everyone to know Nancy was not a drug addict. This verdict from the coroner is more proof of that."
