Judges or Singers: Whose the Star Tonight?
(Here’s the performance show recap from Howard!)
American Idol Season 8, Top 3 Performances
I am childless tonight after a couple of weeks of company. I think I will miss them, but sure they are watching at their house. Tonight there will be one song from the judges and one other chosen by the contestant. Normally, there are three songs, but then again, there were normally 2 last week not 1.5. I believe there is no mentor, which might not be a bad thing.
'They might be heroes in their hometown, but can they garner the votes from the nation?' asks Crusty... How dramatique? It is the 300th episode, and Crusty calls the boys 'The Three Amigos.' Yikes.
Danny Gokey (866) 436-5701/04/07 - Dance Little Sister - Terrance Trent D'Arby
Great up-tempo song, but it is sounding a bit karaoke. The right voice, but it was copycatish. The crowd loved it. The judges might have been a bit mixed in their reviews. Again, the judge's theatrics drowns out the contestant as Crusty talks about Paula punching Simon's breast.
Kris Allen (866) 436-5702/05/08 - Apologize - OneRepublic
Kris is at the piano, and it was a very nice performance. Kris is being killed for not taking chances, and yet Danny was good at karaoke levels, and then Simon goes after Kara and Randy.
Adam Lambert (866) 436-5703/06/09 - One - U2
Cleared by U2, with a call from Bono to Simon. Started slow and pretty, built, and brought it back down. Very well done! Overwhelming response from the audience and judges. Despite a misguided cheap shot from Kara [how can Simon be wrong if you loved it and he gave Adam notes on what he expected?], the drama is at a minimum.
For a break in the action, there is a segment on the now-defunct Idol Gives Back, with a focus on Carrie Underwood making a trip to Africa. AI has raised over $140 million over the past few years. Damn, Carrie is gorgeous.
Danny Gokey (866) 436-5701/04/07 - You Are So Beautiful - Joe Cocker
The pride of Milwaukee. Man, he has a tough time with breath control. Was a bit iffy with the higher register, but at least it was a different arrangement. Randy talks about 'mad skillz' and Simon called it a vocal Masterclass.
Kris Allen (866) 436-5702/05/08 - Heartless - Kanye West
Just Kris and his guitar. This is really good. Brilliant move. Resounding approval of the crowd and the judges, even Simon, who was writing him off. I would go as far as to say the performance of the night so far.
Adam Lambert (866) 436-5703/06/09 - Cryin' - Aerosmith
Starts off well, but the background vocals need to tone down. Wow, they read my mind. Adam is on point, and amazing again. I think he out-sang the amazing Steven Tyler.
Recap - For me, the performance of the night still goes to Kris Allen on Heartless. Then Adam's two, and Kris and Danny fighting, with Danny's first in last. We shall see what the voting public think tomorrow night.
