Johnny Depp Slurs and Curses During Hollywood Film Awards Speech (VIDEO)

Was Johnny Depp drunk at the Hollywood Film Awards?

It certainly looked that way. Earlier tonight at one of the first big ceremonies of the awards season, Johnny Depp was on hand to honor his friend, talent manager/agent/producer Shep Gordon. Gordon is also the subject of the new Mike Myers documentary, Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon, although the film was far from anyone's mind once Depp got up there.

From the first moment, Depp slurs his words, fumbles a bit with the microphone stand, has a bit of trouble with the teleprompter, and even lets out a few curses, all of which are caught by the delay and censored by CBS. It's strange to watch, as you can hear the crowd slowly begin to rumble with uncomfortable amusement upon the realization that Depp is likely drunk.

As if recognizing he was a mess, Depp simply said, “It’s just one of those nights.” He was then unceremoniously cut off by CBS.

Of course, Mike Myers didn't mind that his film, and its subject, Shep Gordon, were upstaged by Depp's antics. Backstage, he called Depp’s intro “very rock n’ roll.”
