Jennifer Love Hewitt Turned Down 'How I Met Your Mother'

In an amusing bit of news from the "What might have been" department, Jennifer Love Hewitt apparently turned down the chance to take one of the lead roles on How I Met Your Mother, the hit comedy that comes to an end on CBS this March after nine seasons.
According to co-creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, who fielded questions from fans during their Reddit AMA yesterday, Hewitt was the original choice to play Robin Scherbatsky, the role that eventually went to Cobie Smulders. However, Hewitt ended up choosing a role on a different CBS show. "Jennifer Love Hewitt did The Ghost Whisperer instead of HIMYM," Thomas explained.
Of course, The Ghost Whisperer lasted about half as long as How I Met Your Mother, getting canceled in 2010 after five seasons, but your opinion on whether or not Hewitt made the right decision depends on how much you like The Client List, or that one episode of SVU she wouldn't have been able to star in if she'd been Robin.
With that said, I think she would have actually been a solid choice for the role. I'm not sure she'd have been as good as Smulders, but it's fun to play the "What if?" game.
What do you think? Did Hewitt make the right choice in passing on the role? Could you see her in the role, or is it too difficult to see anyone else but Cobie Smulders as Robin? Sound off in the comments!
