I don't know how I'm feeling right now. On one hand I am very excited that JLo is now the new face of American Idol. But at the same time, I do feel Idol is about to make a very quick exit this year from being the pre-eminent Reality TV show, to just one of the shows. I think that X Factor might really make a big splash in the Fall, and NBC is mounting a brave challenge with a new show called The Voice to compete directly with Idol in March. A JLo-infused Idol may not be enough -- being that JLo isn't a big ticket star like she used to be.

The big disadvantage for Idol in the next couple of months: by the time The Voice is aired, NBC already knows what Idol has to offer in their Top 20, so they have a great opportunity at getting a chunk of viewers who are dissatisfied with the crop of singers Idol has produced. It will be very interesting and I am very excited.

I still think JLo is going to do a good job though, but the momentum is elsewhere.
