Jennifer Lawrence Charts With 'Hunger Games' Track, 'The Hanging Tree'

Is Jennifer Lawrence on her way to becoming a pop star?

It seems that way, judging by the success of her very first single, "The Hanging Tree" from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 soundtrack. The song, composed by James Newton Howard from lyrics by Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins, is currently at #12 on the ARIA Australian Top 50 Singles Chart and #14 on the U.K. Singles Chart. Although this puts her below artists like One Direction and Taylor Swift, it puts her above acts such as Sam Smith and Lorde. And now, with the single selling 150,000 copies in the past week, it's likely she'll make her Top 40 debut in the Billboard's Hot 100 chart in the U.S., which makes this a doubly-good week for her considering that Mockingjay - Part 1 is the No. 1 movie in the country for a second straight week.

"The Hanging Tree" is heard in Mockingjay - Part 1 as a rallying cry for the rebellion for which Katniss has become the reluctant symbol. Yet J-Law had none of the confidence of Katniss Everdeen when it came to her singing voice.

"I cried the day that I did that," she said in an interview, regarding the day she recorded the song. "I was shaking. I was like, 'I want my mom.' I've never listened to it. When that scene comes on, I plug my ears."

You know, for someone who doesn't think she can sing, Jennifer Lawrence has a hell of a voice. If you haven't seen the movie or heard the soundtrack, check out the full track below for yourself:
