Jennifer Hudson once competed on American Idol to become a star. An Oscar, a Grammy, a Golden Globe, and multiple albums and movies later, J-Hud has now solidified her place in the Hollywood pantheon with a star on the Walk of Fame.

In an emotional ceremony yesterday, Hudson delivered a tearful speech accepting the honor alongside record executive Clive Davis. “Look what God can do,” Hudson said, fighting back tears. “I knew I would get emotional, and I’m sure my mom is in heaven -- 'Jenny, stop crying!' But now is the time to cry, mama.”

Hudson lost her mother in 2008 when William Balfour, the estranged husband of sister Julia, murdered her in cold blood along with Hudson's brother and nephew (Balfour was given three life sentences for the crimes). Though the tragedy has proven difficult for Hudson, she's soldiered on in the past five years with movies, TV appearances, endorsements and new music, all of which has served to further cement her star status. This ceremony is the culmination of that journey, and it's a beautiful moment for a beautiful woman -- and hey, you can watch the whole thing!
