Jenna Coleman Leaving 'Doctor Who'

The Doctor will have to begin searching for a new companion after this Christmas: Jenna Coleman is leaving Doctor Who after this year's holiday special.

While neither Coleman nor BBC have offered a comment, the actress is reportedly looking to leave her role as Clara Oswald, the Doctor's current traveling companion, with a source affirming, “The conversations about Jenna’s exit have started, and a plan is in place which is being ironed out.

“By the time she leaves she will be one of the longest-standing companions ever. She has been absolutely brilliant in the role, but everyone agrees it is a part that should change after a period.”

The sourced would go on to add, “It was very much a mutual decision.

“It’s important to keep the series moving and fast-paced, and the time is just starting to feel right and the feeling is that it could be a perfect Christmas storyline.”

Of course, this comes before the latest series, which will see the debut of Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor, has even premiered. The eighth season of Doctor Who hits screens on August 24th, so we'd better enjoy Coleman while we still can, if the rumors are to be believed. For what it's worth, I've enjoyed her as a companion, although I feel the convoluted nature of her storylines inevitably mean she's never been used to her full potential. Hopefully, the new season makes better use to her as she winds down her time on the show.
