Survivor is currently in the middle of the third of four planned seasons set in the Philippines, so it's no surprise to learn that host Jeff Probst and the rest of the Survivor family feel a certain sense of duty when it comes to helping out the land they've called home for over a year.
Probst and a handful of former contestants that competed in the Philippines seasons are teaming up to help raise money for the country that was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan. Probst and former castaways Lisa Whelchel, John Cochran, Malcolm Freberg, Phillip Sheppard, and Jonathan Penner will be participating in a CBS/Red Cross fundraiser for victims of Typhoon Haiyan that will be taking place on CBS-owned TV stations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sacramento today, Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Probst and the contestants will not only be speaking but will also be answering phones to raise money for the American Red Cross relief effort, with Probst himself recording a Red Cross PSA for victims of the typhoon that will air immediately following Wednesday’s episode of Survivor: Blood vs. Water, encouraging viewers to donate to the Red Cross relief effort.
The Philippines has become one of Survivor's most frequently-visited locations. Following 2012's Survivor: Philippines and its successor, Survivor: Caramoan, Blood vs. Water is the third of four consecutive season to be filmed in the Philippines, with next spring’s season (which was filmed this past summer) to take place in the nation's Cagayan province.
In Los Angeles, the on-air fundraiser will take place from 6am-6:30pm. To donate to the relief effort, visit the Red Cross donation site.
