Glee star Jayma Mays is leaving the series, and while some speculated that this was in order to pursue other opportunities, the actress has now clarified that it wasn't actually her decision to leave at all.
"It wasn't my choice. The creators decided to do it," explained Mays, who plays Emma Pillsbury on the FOX series. "Some other characters will also be leaving this season. It's very sad to be going but I understand why they do it."
The actress continued, "It’s about getting new blood into the show. I really enjoyed playing Emma. I don’t know how I’m written out yet – I’m so curious."
In explaining the difficulty of her departure, Mays also went into detail about the loss of co-star Cory Monteith.
"It's been really hard," the actress stated. "We just filmed his memorial episode and it was a very difficult thing to do. Just being there you felt the absence of a friend and co-worker. It’s been a very sad and difficult year for everyone."
Yet despite her imminent departure from Glee, Mays has already landed on her feet at CBS. The actress is now starring on the fall's biggest new comedy, The Millers, co-starring Margo Martindale, Will Arnett, and Beau Bridges.
