Jay James sings 'Theme from New York, New York' on The X Factor UK 2014 (VIDEO)

Jay James sang 'Theme from New York, New York' (with a splash of 'Empire State of Mind') on The X Factor UK Live Show 6 on November 15, 2014.

I thought this was terrific, if a little bit goofy in places. But I liked that about this performance, since Jay has been so deathly serious throughout this competition, and hasn't really gotten the chance to show much personality like this. I did find it strange that he sang with what sounded like an American accent, as Cheryl pointed out. I enjoyed it, but it was just a bit of a surprise. Same with his deeper voice, since he almost sounded like a completely different artist. It would have been like Adam Levine coming out and singing like Michael Buble.

Anyway, while I didn't think it was Jay's best from a vocal perspective, I thought this was a lot of fun. And it showed that Jay is capable of diversity in his vocal and performance style. And that could be enough to keep him out of the bottom 2.

But what do you think of Jay James?
