You know you've really made it in life when exes can parlay having been with you into a potentially lucrative financial venture.
The former fiance of NBA star Jason Collins, who revealed he is gay in an essay featured in the May 6 issue of Sport Illustrated, is writing a book about their relationship. Carolyn Moos, the woman in question, made a formal announcement on her personal website:
“Carolyn will be writing a book as she reflects on her recent life events about her former fiance. She welcomes submitted questions from the public about what they would like to hear more on given topics that were discuss at the surface level in the interviews. Send your questions to questions@carolynmoos.com and Carolyn will review all of them as she begins to write.”
No further details were available on the project, and there's no real indication that the book has a publisher (or even that anyone asked for this thing to be written).
Moos, a former WNBA star for the Phoenix Mercury, Miami Sol and Minnesota Lynxand, met Collins at Stanford, where she played basketball. The couple dated for seven years before becoming engaged.
In his Sports Illustrated story, Collins wrote, “When I was younger I dated women. I even got engaged. I thought I had to live a certain way. I thought I needed to marry a woman and raise kids with her. I kept telling myself the sky was red, but I always knew it was blue.”
Collins came out to Moos only days before the Sports Illustrated piece was released. For her part, Moos didn't see it coming.
"It's very emotional for me as a woman to have invested [eight] years in my dream to have a husband, soul mate and best friend in him. So this is all hard to understand,” Moos said in an interview with TMZ last week.
“This is all hard to understand,” she said. “I care about (Jason) tremendously and only want the best for him. I want Jason to be happy for a lifetime and stay true to who he really is, inside and out.”
