Jane Lynch and Lara Embry to divorce

As if to confirm the decline of love in an increasingly listless world, Glee star Jane Lynch announced today that she will be divorcing her wife of three years, Dr. Lara Embry.

“Lara and I have decided to end our marriage. This has been a difficult decision for us as we care very deeply about one another. We ask for privacy as we deal with this family matter,” Lynch said in a statement to People.

The couple married in Massachusetts in June 2010. Embry has two daughters from a previous relationship. I imagine this is as awkward and unpleasant for them as it is for Lynch and Embry, although I'm not sure why high-profile divorces surprise me (or bum me out) in this day and age. Better to cut ties if it's not working than continue to drag out the inevitable, I suppose. Not everyone can make such a civil, respectful parting.
