Jane Fonda lands lead in new ABC comedy pilot

Two-time Academy Award winner Jane Fonda has never actually starred as the lead in her own television show, much less a comedy vehicle. ABC is looking to change that for the Newsroom alum. The project, called Now What?, will be written by Abby Gewanter, one of the creative forces behind ABC's critically-acclaimed, little-watched cult hit, Pushing Daisies.

The series follows a woman who moves in with her daughter to repair their broken relationship, after the daughter writes a blog post detailing how much she hates her. What this means for Fonda's character on The Newsroom remains to be seen, but the limited nature of her role should allow for the actress to do both projects, assuming Now What? gets ordered to series.
