Oliver Stone is getting back into politics.
The director of political biopics such as JFK, Nixon and W. is reportedly being approached along with Jamie Foxx to join a film about the late Martin Luther King Jr. The project is a co-production by DreamWorks and Warner Bros. Stone is being considered to direct the film, while Foxx is the frontrunner to star as the legendary civil rights leader.
Steven Spielberg is producing alongside Suzanne de Passe, Madison Jones and Sam Nappi. Members of King’s family are also involved as executive producers. The project is currently working off of a script by Kario Salem, with Oscar winner Ronald Harwood having written a previous draft.
Neither Stone nor Foxx have offers at this stage, but meetings have taken place. The two are keen on doing it, but there are reservations, due to the polarizing nature of Stone, whose films are frequently questioned on the ground of historical inaccuracies. However, the director has been lauded in the past for his takes on the Vietnam war, having won two Best Director Oscars, for 1986's Platoon and 1989's Born on the Fourth of July.
What do you think? Would Jamie Foxx be right for the role? Is Oliver Stone the right director? Sound off in the comments!
