Jamie Foxx is looking to contribute his musical talents to Sony's update of the classic comic strip-turned-musical Annie, produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z and starring Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis in the title role.
Foxx is in negotiations with the studio to star as a character named Benjamin Stacks. The character is "a variation of the Daddy Warbucks personage, who takes in the spunky orphan girl being played by Wallis." Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends With Benefits) is directing, while Smith and Jay-Z produce alongside Overbrook Entertainment partner James Lassiter, Marcy Media's Jay Brown and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith, and Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Gluck is in the process of revising the script alongside Emma Thompson and Aline Brosh McKenna, with Sony eyeing a late fall production start for a targeted 2014 release.
