James Franco Goes Blonde for Role as Ex-Gay Activist (PHOTOS)
James Franco has gone blonde for his newest role.
In a series of posts to Instagram, Franco revealed the first look at his appearance as ex-gay activist Michael Glatze in the upcoming film Michael. According to Vulture, the film centers on the life of Michael Glatze, a gay activist who leaves San Francisco behind, renounces his homosexuality, and comes out as a Christian fundamentalist. Michael is based on the New York Times article "My Ex-Gay Friend" by Benoit Denizet-Lewis, which was published in 2011, two years before Glatze would marry his wife, a woman named Rebekah. The film co-stars Star Trek vet Zachary Quinto as Glatze's ex-boyfriend, and Emma Roberts as his hetero love interest.
Check out Franco's first look photos -- which not only include pics from the set of Michael, but also a photo alongside his Nana -- below:
This is one of my most anticipated films in some time, simply due to the controversial nature of the subject matter, along with the general talent of the cast. Quinto is fantastic and Franco's talent is continually overlooked in lieu of some of his antics. And I generally enjoy Emma Roberts, even if I don't love the projects she chooses. But what do you think? Sound off in the comments!
