Jake Quickenden sings 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' on The X Factor UK 2014 (VIDEO)

Jake Quickenden sang 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' on The X Factor UK 2014 Live Show 2 on October 18, 2014.

Pre-performance: Jake is gutted about his comments last week, but Mel B is not only encouraging him to suck it up, she's insisting he stop posting shirtless pictures to Twitter, since she wants people to vote for him because of his voice, not his looks. Jake will be singing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler, but Mel B just isn't feeling it in the rehearsals. She wants more from Jake, and although she knows it's a "big ask", she trusts he can deliver.

Nick's Thoughts: This was leagues better than last week. It wasn't perfect, but it was still a very strong vocal. It felt like a Jake Quickenden song, and not a cover of a Bonnie Tyler song. This almost felt like a Bottom 2 sing-off performance for how emotional Jake was during this vocal. That said, he didn't hit every note, but what he lacked in vocal prowess, he more than made up for in passion. He even had some great moments towards the end. Jake's voice is deceptively powerful, and it's great that he got to show off that side of his voice off.

Judges: We're at the point in the evening where the judges are getting rushed: Louis thought it was a great, while Cheryl liked Jake more than she liked the song choice, which she thought didn't really do much for him. Simon, meanwhile, likes Jake's passion and his work ethic, taking criticism and using it to grow instead of pouting about it. However, he thinks when Jake hears it back, he'll be very disappointed with that vocal. Mel B thinks Simon is crazy, and declares Jake's vocals on-point. For his part, Jake intends to make it his mission to win Simon over if he sticks around. Jake might not be my favorite guy in the competition, but he's a very good singer, so I hope he does stick around for a while.
