Is there a Carly Smithson - Randy Jackson connection?

Carly Smithson Plot Thickens ... Should Carly Smithson Be Disqualified for Working with Randy Jackson in the Past? (Vote for the Worst)

Carly Smitshon was signed to MCA records during the same time period that Randy Jackson was the senior vice president of A&R. Carly Smithson was at MCA in 1999. Randy started at MCA in 1998 and was there for 4 years. Should this mean an automatic disqualification for Carly Smithson? We think so! An American Idol wikipedia entry says that Thomas Lowe was disqualified last year " because it was publicized that he had been signed to BMG while Simon Cowell was at the label, which is against American Idol rules."

And it's not as if Randy Jackson could not have known about Carly Smithson at that time because it was music news. Aside from a front-page Wall Street Journal feature, many websites reported about it. Carly Smithson was supposed to be MCA's answer to Britney Spears.
