International Secret Agents in New York - Rickey with Asians

I went to the International Secret Agents concert at Webster Hall in New York.

I had no idea what this was. All I know was Quest Crew was going to be there and Ryan Higa was hosting. Of course I had to go. I even got the "Backstage" ticket -- which turned out to be a bust since I didn't go backstage (it was effectively just a VIP pass) and they didn't give me a t-shirt which was what made the ticket cost $100 in the first place.

Daniel, pictured here, couldn't really help me -- he had no idea how to get me the t-shirt or where I could go -- but he made up for lack of information in cuteness. Too bad the person who took our picture, did not know how to take a picture since it was blurred:

So I finally got to meet Ryan Conferido face to face! This was like six So You Think You Can Dance seasons in the making! I was very happy to see him. He was such a nice guy. He gave me a Quest shirt before the show started. I really wanted to hang out of them but apparently they are leaving at 6 AM Sunday.

I also got to meet Ryan Higa and the rest of the Quest Crew during the Meet and Greet -- but they didn't allow us to take pictures with them, so I was a bit pissed (since I waited for an hour). But Ryan said he was happy to finally meet me. Also, Steven Terada recognized me as well, which kinda made my night. I really wanted pictures with Hok and the rest of them, but that's how things go I guess.

Unfortunately, since this was my most recent memory of this, I've ended up b#tching about the lack of pictures instead of how entertaining the night was.

So yeah, it was a great night: I've never been in a venue full of Asians before in New York City. The energy of the crowd was great. Featured artists aside from Quest Crew and Ryan Higa included Kev Jumba, Wong Fu Productions, David Choi and Far East Movement.

For a moment during the night, I felt that Asians could continue to rule the Internet since people like Ryan Higa are the most subscribed ever on YouTube and the fan following in the audience was intense. However, I immediately remembered Andrew Garcia (who isn't Asian but is big with the Asian community due to YouTube) and how he was a huge bust when he faced the American general public.

I guess we all need to continue to push and get out of the bubble unscathed. It will I happen eventually I know it.

I think the guys who organized the International Secret Agents definitely have the pulse of the young Asian-American audience. It was great to see tonight.
