So Independence Day 2 is apparently happening.

Hitfix reports that the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster is not only moving forward, the film has an official release date: July 3, 2015. This is nearly nineteen years to the day since the original saw release, on July 2, 1996. The announcement was made official by 20th Century Fox earlier today, and while none of the original cast is on board just yet, Roland Emmerich will return to the franchise as director/producer.

Independence Day grossed over $800 million worldwide and was the No. 1 box-office hit of 1996.
