In a rare case of a contestant becoming exponentially more interesting after being voted off, Devin Velez has gone from an American Idol Season 12 afterthought to one of the season's most talked-about contestants. Between his Twitter feud with Nicki Minaj, and his outspoken statements in the aftermath of the disastrous trio performance that, arguably, had a huge hand in sending him home, Velez hasn't gone gentle into that good night.

The eighth-place finisher sat down with TVLine's Idol expert Michael Slezak to talk his season 12 journey. The interview resulted in some pretty interesting tidbits, from the muddied song selection process to his thoughts on Nicki Minaj now that the Twitter business has mostly blown over.
