'Hunger Games: The Exhibition' Lets You See Things J-Law Has Touched
Want to get your hands on some authentic props from The Hunger Games film franchise? Well, Lionsgate is doing its best to give you that opportunity.
Lionsgate has announced that it will launch The Hunger Games: The Exhibition, a U.S. tour featuring displays of costumes, props, and other elements of the popular films based on the equally-popular Suzanne Collins books. The tour will begin in the summer of 2015, and will be Lionsgate's first significant step toward exploring possible theme park attractions, since the desire of every red-blooded American teen is to reenact The Hunger Games without having to actually die or get ogled by Stanley Tucci.
Starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, the first two Hunger Games films have grossed more than $1.5 billion worldwide. Naturally, to capitalize on that box office, The Hunger Games: The Exhibition will be placed in “major museums and institutions” with a multimedia promotional effort and nationwide advance ticket sales. If nothing else, the launch of the exhibit will be timely, since it comes just a few short months before the Nov. 20, 2015 release date of the fourth and final film in the franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
"Now that we’ve built a critical mass of intellectual property, we’re committed to extending our brands into exciting new businesses that create opportunities for our fans to engage with our properties at the same time they deliver significant incremental financial benefits to Lionsgate," said Tim Palen, Lionsgate's chief marketing officer.
This exhibit is in continuing Lionsgate's announced intention to explore theme park opportunities. As CEO Jon Feltheimer explained in a conference call with analysts last November, Lionsgate has been approached about Hunger Games theme park attractions in at least two territories. While those territories have not been specified, Feltheimer did confirm that Lionsgate was considering these options. Case in point, longtime Thinkwell executive Jenefer Brown has been promoted to senior VP of branded attractions, meaning Lionsgate is serious about getting this theme park attraction idea off the ground. Brown will oversee the launch of The Hunger Games: The Exhibition, in addition to exploring "theme park attraction and other location-based entertainment opportunities around the world" for the franchise, along with other Lionsgate properties (perhaps we'll get a theme park attraction based on their upcoming Power Rangers film franchise? Hey, an inner child can dream!).
So what do you think? What should a Hunger Games theme park attraction entail? And would you go to a Hunger Games theme park attraction? Sound off in the comments!
