Hulu Considering Reviving 'Community' for Sixth Season
It might not be the end for Greendale after all.
Despite being canceled by NBC, cult hit comedy Community might be revived for a sixth season thanks to the streaming video on-demand service Hulu, which is in preliminary talks with Sony Pictures TV, the show's producer. One tick in Community's favor is its preexisting relationship with Hulu, as the network already has a digital syndication deal with the show.
However, showrunner Dan Harmon has noted in the past that he'd be a bit "eh" about bringing the show back for a sixth season, since the show has already had so many brushes with cancellation in the past. "I’m not going to be the guy that re-cancels cancelled Community," he noted in the days following Community's official cancellation.
If there's another feather in Community's cap, it's that Sony Pictures TV is the Michael Jordan of bringing back shows from the dead. Not only were they able to get low-rated, but cult-favorite comedies like Community and Rules of Engagement renewed year after year, the studio also negotiated a deal to bring Damages to DirecTV after it was canceled by FX. In addition, they managed to get Drop Dead Diva resurrected on Lifetime and Unforgettable renewed on CBS.
So while it might be a bit early to celebrate, things aren't as hopeless as they might seem for the #sixseasonsandamovie movement.
