Hugh Jackman Thinks Channing Tatum Could Replace Him as Wolverine

Hugh Jackman is looking ahead to the future. Not just his own, but that of his most famous character.

Although Jackman has no plans to hang up his adamantium claws as X-Men character Wolverine, he has a successor in mind for when that day inevitably comes.

"I don't know who could play him, Channing Tatum could probably play him," Jackman said in an interview with Britain's Press Association while promoting X-Men: Days of Future Past in London.

While that might horrify some, Tatum actually does have some action movie cred, from his role in the GI Joe movies to his upcoming starring role in the sci-fi actioner Jupiter Ascending. However, even if you're on Team Tatum, you probably shouldn't get too excited about the possibility of Channing taking over the role just yet. Jackman is already attached to star in a third Wolverine movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 3, 2017.

Jackman admitted that while he isn't planning on giving up the role just yet, he admits that time will catch up with him. But he's happy to have even taken the character this far.

"I feel very lucky I've had as many goes as I've had," said Jackman, in an interview with The New York Daily News. "It'll feel a little weird (seeing someone else in the role), but I'm sure it felt a little weird for Sean Connery watching other people play James Bond."

Trust me, if the actor they get is good enough, it'll stop being weird really fast. (I call it "The Daniel Craig Precedent")
