House of Lies - Season 2 Episode 6 - Recap - Family Values

Here’s the recap for Season 2 Episode 6 of House of Lies: “Family Values” on Showtime!

A Galweather corporate retreat could not be more exciting! Any other company retreat is a lot of trust exercises and meditation... an eclectic Galweather clan all together is nothing less than a bunch of crazies. The newly coined, "POD" is at it again, Marty (Don Cheadle) is once again challenged by Julianne (Bess Armstrong), Doug (Josh Lawson) has a new take on his cohort because of his new girlfriend Sarah (Jenny Slate), and Tamara (Nia Long) brings her drama to the table (literally).

While Clyde (Ben Schwartz) and Jeanie are acting too cool for school, they find motivation when co-workers call them out for being losers with out their fearless leader Marty. Afraid of losing, they bully Doug into taking control of the team "row boat" in the company race without taking into consideration he lack of swimming skills. This leads Sarah to call Doug out on the carpet for taking shit from his selfish teammates that he sadly believe are his friends. This leads Doug to some realizations about his cohort that he must take control of... funny thing is the retreat was meant to bring the team together and it does more to tear them apart. Doug calls his "best buddy" Clyde out for hitting on Sarah. For once Clyde shows his vulnerabilities which gives Doug the opportunity to stick it to him and walk away in stride to go fuck his girlfriend.

Marty is missing in action for most of the crazy retreat, but is in no way missing out on the insane. After Marty breaks it to Julianne that he may not be able to make part of the retreat functions that is specifically for the partners, she puts his loyalty to the test. Julianne passively suggests that if Marty is not present because he can't miss Roscoe's (Donis Leonard Jr.) school play, that it shows his lack of commitment to Galweather. That's right, Marty missed out and went to Roscoe's play, but don't you worry. Marty had his fair share of crazy when Roscoe and his classmates start crunking to Starting Six- S.O.D., need I mention what S.O.D. stand for?? Anyway, Roscoe and his dancing partners were ushered off stage with enough time for Marty to slip out and get back to the retreat.

Marty comes back to Tamara, Sarah and the POD downing shots like champions. Before he joins he has not so pleasant run in with Julianne, who seams to always need to challenge Marty. This time Marty snaps and tries to call her out for her continued passive aggressive bullshit but Julianne doesn't budge. She steps up and lays it out clear for Marty... "Your agressive attitude will no longer be acceptable at Galweather."

Marty makes his way back the the partying fools and finishes out the night. Towards the end of the night, he and Tamara are the only ones left standing. Tamara opens up about her breakup with her husband back home and Marty counters with, "I am quitting the firm." Tamara tries to rekindle their lost times back in college but Marty plays it like a stupid college boy and ask the waitress to be part of a threesome.

This crazy bunch can't seem to keep it together and the boozing never seems to help. Marty may seem like nothing gets to him but slowly we see everything changing around him. His ex-wife is now a lesbian? we'll see. As for the rest of the POD, they each have their own issue and insecurities. Doug is naive as they come, Clyde is selfish yet entertaining and Jeannie has a tough time loving her self. With an unsuccessful retreat behind them,  let's see what is in store for them next.
