'House of Cards' Season 3 Will Film in Maryland After All
After the fate of House of Cards Season 3 was left hanging in the balance due to an issue over Maryland's tax credit legislation, it appears the series won't have to find a new home after all.
Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and House Of Cards producers Media Rights Capital announced they have reached an agreement to keep the hit Netflix drama in its home state for Season 3. “Spoiler alert: we’re going to keep the 3700 jobs and more than 100 million dollars of economic activity and investment that House Of Cards generates right here in Maryland,” said O’Malley. “Media Rights Capital has been a great supporter of the people and entertainment community in Maryland and we couldn’t be happier to continue our partnership.”
The show will now get a sizable $11.5 million this year for production via the 2014 Film Production Tax Credit program, in addition to a General Assembly authorization of $7.5 million in grants for the 2015 budget. This is the most House of Cards has yet received for a single season.
House of Cards Season 3 is now expected to start production later this year, and while this may mean a bit longer of a wait for the premiere of the new season, I'd argue Season 2 made a case for the show being well worth the wait.
