'Heroes: Reborn' Getting Digital Prequel Series

Heroes is getting a revival in the form of Heroes: Reborn, an all-new miniseries that resurrects the one-time NBC hit. Apparently, the enthusiastic reaction to the announcement of the new series has prompted NBC to add even more Heroes to the lineup, as the miniseries will be getting a digital prequel.

Heroes Reborn: Digital Series will be an online prequel that airs in conjunction with Heroes: Reborn, and will be the first in a new series of original online video content from NBC, as the network begins its original digital content initiative. It joins the already-planned interactive series about fans who wait in the Saturday Night Live standby line. It's called Saturday Night Line, and no, I'm not making that up.

This new, exclusive online content will be made available on digital platforms including channel websites, Hulu, and video-on-demand.

“It’s exciting to bring original content to the forefront on all of our digital platforms, “ said Robert Hayes, Executive Vice President, Digital Media, NBC Entertainment. “We are lucky to once again be in business with some of the top producers in Hollywood making new content to further engage fans.”

There's no word on just when NBC will premiere Heroes: Reborn other than the vague promise that it will arrive in 2015, but seriously, I can't be the only one excited for this, right? I mean, yeah, Heroes Seasons 2 and 3 were kind of rough, but I thought Season 4 was an encouraging return to form. And then...cancellation. So I'm interested to see how the show does in a new context, where the premise isn't as novel as it once was, and the show is forced to branch out into more unique, original stories. Fingers crossed it can deliver.
