Herman Cain drops out of presidential race, quotes Pokemon and Donna Summer
Herman Cain drops out of the presidential race. He has suspended his campaign amid allegations of sexual misconduct. At the end of his speech, he quoted a Donna Summer song from the Pokemon Movie: "The Power of One".
He led the GOP field for a couple of weeks in the polls. He was the CEO of Godfather's Pizza.
I will miss him. He was an endless source of entertainment on the Internet.
The report:
From LA Times:
Herman Cain, the insurgent populist whose candidacy has been ensnared by allegations of sexual impropriety, said Saturday that he is leaving the race for the Republican presidential nomination, saying that the allegations have cast a "cloud of doubt over me and this campaign.""As of today, with a lot of prayer and soul searching, I am suspending my presidential campaign," he said at an event in Atlanta. "I am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt . . . on me, on my family, not because we are not fighters, not because I am not a fighter."
From Daily Beast:
“I believe these words came from the Pokémon movie,” Cain said toward the end of his speech. "Life can be a challenge. Life can seem impossible. It’s never easy when there’s so much on the line. But you and I can make a difference. There’s a mission just for you and me.” It was later revealed that the quote was actually a line from Donna Summers' disco song, "The Power of One." New York Magazine pointed out that, as if referencing the song wasn't strange enough on its own, Summers had actually written it for Pokémon: The Movie 2000.
