Hell’s Kitchen - Season 10 Episode 5 - Recap - 14 Chefs Compete

Last week, we witnessed a new animosity brewing between Red Team members Kimmie and Danielle; Chef Ramsay also placed Roshni on the Blue Team. In tonight’s episode, Red Team member Tiffany drunkenly gossiped and twisted the truth... she caused even more rifts in the Red Team. After the daily challenge, Royce (while speaking to Tiffany) criticized Kimmie’s dish. Tiffany immediately walked over to Kimmie to tell her that Dana, Christina, and Danielle (not Royce) criticized her dish. I almost threw something at my TV when I watched this scene. Tiffany is such a liar. Then, Kimmie verbally trashed her teammates because she was oblivious to Tiffany’s lies. I am so glad Roshni doesn’t have to deal with this negative energy anymore. Tonight’s episode also featured the first ever Mexican Cuisine Night at Hell’s Kitchen! Very exciting.

Last week, Blue Team member Don got the ax. If you missed Episode 4, you can read my recap and watch the elimination here:

Challenge of the Day: Turn 5 Mexican Traditional Dishes into Fine Dining Food.

The Red Team members are: Robyn, Tiffany, Danielle, Kimmie, Barbie, Dana, Christina. All seven Red Team members cooked one dish, but were only allowed to present five dishes for Chef Ramsay’s judging. They decided to leave out Robyn and Barbie’s dishes. A couple mistakes from the challenge: Danielle’s New York Strip Burrito was inedible and her burrito literally fell apart; Christina’s dish lacked authenticity and creativity because she sanitized it in Mexican seasoning... it just wasn’t presentable as a Fine Dining entree. Highlight of the challenge: Chef Ramsay congratulated Dana on cooking and preparing the best overall Fine Dining dish.

The Blue Team members are: Guy, Royce, Justin, Brian, Patrick, Clemenza, Roshni. Each Blue Team member cooked a dish of their own, but were only allowed five dishes for Chef Ramsay’s judging. Brian described Mexican food as “sexy and simple.” He went on to say that he is “all about simplicity and sex”... but his dish wasn’t chosen for judging; neither was Guy’s dish. A mistake from the challenge: Royce put too much grease in his Taco dish. Do you think they could have won the challenge if they chose to present Brian’s dish over Royce’s?

Result: The Red Team won by a score of 3 to 2 Fine Dining dishes. Their reward: A stunning gourmet lunch at the Rivera. Side Notes: The Red Team went salsa dancing after their lunch. As part of the Blue Team’s punishment for losing the challenge, Sous Chef Scott had them eat Tripe. Royce said it best: “It smells like grass, but it tastes like ass”... Clemenza enjoyed eating Tripe though. The Blue Team members are hilarious! I heart them.

The Red Team are now 4 for 5 in challenges. The Blue Team are 1 for 5.

Tonight’s Dinner Service: First ever Mexican Night in 10 seasons.

The Red Team’s total count dwindled to 4 chefs tonight. Chef Ramsay kicked out Danielle, Barbie, and Tiffany from the Red Kitchen. Here are four mistakes from tonight’s dinner service: Danielle handed Chef Ramsay pink, bloody, and raw pork twice; Barbie shamelessly used a thermometer to cook breasted chicken; Tiffany handed Chef Ramsay burnt mashed potatoes and talked back to him in return; and, Dana and Kimmie put New York Strip (meat) and Snapper (fish) on the same tray. Towards the end of the episode, the Red Team targeted Barbie again... not because she is the worst chef, but because she has yet to form an alliance with the others. It’s unfortunate that her teammates constantly target her. It’s like a never-ending game of Monkey in the Middle... with Barbie in the middle. The alliances are like so: Robyn, Tiffany, and Kimmie play the roles of “Bad Chicks”; while Christina, Dana, and Danielle play the roles of “Good Girls.” In the realm of reality TV, it is a good idea to align yourself with another.... because if you don’t, you are at risk for early elimination. The Red Team successfully completed dinner service despite missing three members.

The Blue Team’s total count shriveled to just 2 chefs tonight. Chef Ramsay kicked out Patrick, Royce, Clemenza, Justin, and Guy from the Blue Kitchen. Here are several mistakes from tonight’s dinner service: Justin and Clemenza handed Ramsay raw pork; Guy handed Ramsay stone cold tuna; Royce handed Ramsay terrible-tasting chicken with over-crispy skin; and Patrick just took way too long to cook the chicken (so everything else was getting cold). Only Brian and Roshni remained in the Blue Kitchen. Fortunately, they were able to cook the chicken just right. Roshni surprised me tonight. I think she was finally able to focus on her cooking as she didn’t have to deal with distractions from the Red Team. Tonight, she was far better than anything we’ve previously seen from her. Transferring to the Blue Team did her wonders! I am so proud of Roshni. She definitely made the Blue Team proud tonight. I’m also surprised that Chef Ramsay banished Patrick from the Blue kitchen. I think Patrick was just having an off-day at the office. We have already seen what he is capable of in the previous episodes... I still believe he is a worthy candidate for the finals. Patrick is still my favorite contestant this season regardless of Chef Ramsay calling him “old and beat.” I understand Chef Ramsay is looking for someone younger and more energetic, but Patrick has the culinary skills and experience that the others don’t have yet. The Blue Team successfully completed tonight’s dinner service despite missing five members.

In regards to dinner services, the Blue Team are 3 for 5. The Red Team, however, are 2 for 5.

Result: Both teams lost tonight. Four names were submitted for elimination: Barbie and Danielle (from the Red Team), Patrick and Guy (from the Blue Team). Chef Ramsay knew Barbie wasn’t the weakest link on the Red Team, so she was safe tonight. Only Danielle, Patrick, and Guy are at risk of elimination. We will find out who got axed in tomorrow night’s episode. I hope Chef Ramsay keeps Patrick in the game. Out of these three contestants left on the chopping block, I would eliminate Danielle. She’s made too many crucial mistakes this season. We will see what happens tomorrow.

TO BE CONTINUED...

We will find out who got axed tomorrow night. The next episode airs Tuesday, 6/19, at 8pm ET.
