Hell’s Kitchen - Season 10 Episode 14 - Recap - 8 Chefs Compete

The fourteenth episode of Hell’s Kitchen Season 10, “8 Chefs Compete,” featured a Southern Cuisine-themed night. Today’s challenge opened up with a gospel choir singing along to “Let It Shine.” One contestant—who is originally from the South—didn’t meet Chef Ramsay’s expectations. All 8 contestants were kicked out of the kitchen tonight.

Challenge of the Day: 

Chef Ramsay displayed a map that included images of food plastered onto several states. Arizona had a picture of an Avocado, Texas had Ribs, Idaho had Potatoes, Maine had Lobster, Maryland had Crab, and Wisconsin had Cheese. Each of these regions currently have steak cuisines.

Ramsay introduced a Gospel Choir singing along to “Let It Shine.” Each choir member held up a fan with their respective names on it. Half of the fans were Blue, while the other half was Purple. There were entrees listed on the back of the Blue fans, and there were side dishes listed on the back of the Purple fans. Two contestants (one from each team) came up one at a time to choose whatever ingredients were behind the Blue and Purple fans. Each contestant was asked to turn a classic southern dish into fine dining southern food. Today’s judge was Tanya Steel from the critically acclaimed food website: EpiCurious.com.

Ingredients (1 entree, 1 side dish):

1. Barbie and Clemenza: Entree - Catfish; Side Dish - Collard Greens
2. Kimmie and Brian: Entree - Pork Chop; Side Dish - Grits
3. Christina and Justin: Entree - Fried Chicken; Side DIsh - Mac & Cheese
4. Dana and Robyn: Entree - Meatloaf; Side Dish - Sweet Potato

The Red Team members are: Kimmie, Barbie, Dana, Christina. Tanya Steel enjoyed Barbie’s catfish & collard greens as well as Kimmie’s pork chop & grits. However, she didn’t enjoy Christina’s soggy fried chicken (Christina put too much batter in it). Tanya really liked the presentation of Dana’s meat loaf dish, but felt that the meat overpowered the sweet potato. Overall, Tanya preferred Dana’s presentation the most.

The Blue Team members are: Justin, Brian, Clemenza, Robyn. Tanya Steel pointed out that Clemenza’s catfish was undercooked, that Brian’s pork chop was raw, and that Robyn put too much salt in her meat loaf. Justin did a great job with his Fried Chicken and Mac & Cheese.

Result: The Red Team won by a score of 3 to 1 dishes. Dana’s Meat Loaf & Sweet Potato dish will be featured on EpiCurious.com—which is the most visited food site on the Internet. Their reward was to participate in a photoshoot with Chef Ramsay and Tanya Steel. They also ate a nice lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA. Side Note: The Blue Team’s punishment was to make fresh bread by churning butter by hand. Each Blue Team member received a clay pot and a stick to churn butter the old-fashioned way. Robyn mentioned that she felt like an Amish person while she moved the stick up and down to churn the butter.

The Red Team are now 6 for 11 in challenges. The Blue Team, however, are 5 for 11.

Tonight’s Dinner Service:

It was Southern Cuisine Night at Hell’s Kitchen. Of all 8 remaining contestants, Kimmie is the only contestant from the South. Tonight’s Menu Included:

• Crab Cake Appetizer
• Catfish
• Fried Chicken

The Red Team didn’t do so well tonight. Before dinner service began, Kimmie boasted about being able to lead the team, but she was ultimately the weakest link on the Red Team. She handed Chef Ramsay burnt and raw catfish on several occasions, and Barbie served unseasoned garnish. Dana prepared good crab cake though. The entire Red Team was kicked out.

The Blue Team didn’t do so hot either. Chef Ramsay called Brian’s oysters a “ball of snot,” Brian also burnt his catfish, and Robyn handed Chef Ramsay raw chicken twice. The Blue team was also kicked out.

Chef Ramsay, Sous Chef Scott, and Sous Chef Andi finished dinner service for both teams tonight.

Result: Both teams lost. Only two names were submitted for elimination (one person from each team): Red Team member Kimmie and Blue team member Robyn. Ramsay eliminated Kimmie.

The Blue Team are now 4 for 11 in dinner services. The Red Team, however, are 5 for 11.

Chef Ramsay made a good decision. He is finally getting rid of the people that cause the most drama in the house! Last week he eliminated Tiffany, and this week he eliminated Kimmie. I suppose Ramsay will eliminate Robyn in the next episode. She’s the weakest link left in the bunch.

I only see two clear frontrunners right now: Justin and Christina. I think these two will battle it out to the finish line. I like Brian as well, but he’s not a great cook (he’s made too many errors over the course of the show). And, Brian’s just a total goofball (which is why I love him so. I love his humor!). But, he is SO NOT going to be in the Final 2. I betcha anything.

My prediction for the elimination order is:
