"Heaven Is A Place On Earth" - Belinda Carlisle vs. Edmée Daenen

There are a few names that I consider are the meat and potatoes of 80's pop music and one of those names on my list is Belinda Carlisle. Her signature song, Heaven Is A Place On Earth was released in 1987 and shot to the top of US Billboard Hot 100. For me, this is one of the top pop songs of that time. I remember listening to the radio as a kid and hearing this song come on every couple of hours or so. It was a fun song and it had that 80's candy love feel about it, that seems to me, began in the 80s.

In 2008, DHT, a Belgian group, released a cover of Heaven Is A Place On Earth sung by Edmée Daenen that is simply stunning. I was skeptical at first of any redo of a 80s hit. Who wants to hear a recreation of something they consider such a staple piece of music? After listening to the Unplugged version of the song, I was shocked; I loved it. It was such a beautiful recreation; simple with a piano, some added ornamentation here and there but Edmee's voice and the feel of the song was perfect. The song is much more somber and soulful and I had to admit that they did a good job. DHT also released some dance versions of the songs in different flavors, but my favorite was Edmee's Unplugged version.

Which version of the song is your favorite and why? Do you have memories of this song? COMMENT BELOW!!
