HBO Renews 'The Leftovers' for a Second Season
Despite ratings that have declined since its series premiere, and critical enthusiasm that has waned in recent weeks, HBO has opted to renew The Leftovers for a second season.
HBO released a statement confirming the news of a second season of the series created by former Lost showrunner Damon Lindelof and author Tom Perrotta, the author of the novel on which the series is based. The Leftovers tells the tale of a small New York town struggling with the aftermath of a global event in which 2% of the world's population mysteriously vanishes without explanation.
“It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta’s provocative and original storytelling,” said Michael Lombardo, Head of Programming at HBO.
The series, starring Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, and Christopher Eccleston, concludes its first season on Sept. 7th.
