HBO orders comedy series about gay men starring Jonathan Groff

HBO has placed an eight-episode order for a dramedy about three gay men that some are already comparing to Lena Dunham's Girls (which...yeah, I'm not touching that comparison with a ten-foot pole).
The as-yet untitled series will star Jonathan Groff (Glee) and centers on "Three friends in San Francisco explore the fun and sometimes overwhelming options available to a new generation of gay men."
In addition to Groff - who is also set to star as the love interest of Taylor Kitsch in HBO's adaptation of the Larry Kramer play "The Normal Heart," from Glee creator Ryan Murphy - the series will star Frankie J. Alvarez (Smash) and Murray Bartlett (Guiding Light).
Andrew Haigh (of the critically-acclaimed drama Weekend) directed the pilot and is executive producing the series alongside writer and co-executive producer Michael Lannan (Remember Me) writing and co-executive producing. Sarah Condon and David Marshall Grant are also on-board as executive producers.
The series is expected to premiere in 2014.
