Hayley Atwell Returning to 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' in November

Marvel is building the anticipation for the premiere of the midseason ABC drama, Agent Carter. And they're doing this by bringing its star back to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D!

Yes, Hayley Atwell will return to the series as Agent Peggy Carter, who last appeared in a flashback in the second season premiere. She will reprise her role from Captain America: The First Avenger on the eighth episode of the season, scheduled to air on November 18. The episode, titled "The Things We Bury", will also feature a family reunion between the Ward brothers, Grant (Brett Dalton) and Christian (Tim DeKay).

Here's the official synopsis of the episode from Marvel themselves: "Coulson and team find themselves in an epic face-off against Hydra to uncover an ancient secret, while Ward kidnaps his brother, Senator Christian Ward, for a violent trip down memory lane, on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," Tuesday, November 18 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network."

Although Atwell is terrific in the part, I'm curious as to whether or not this is a character who can actually carry a series. However, the midseason run for Agent Carter will be a limited series of eight episodes, intended to bridge the first and second halves of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D's second season. So I don't think ABC is expecting this to be a show that will have to carry the network through the rest of the 2014-2015 broadcast season, once it premieres. Maybe that levity will translate to a series that doesn't take itself too seriously. If nothing else, it could provide a nice contrast to the darker, more serious tone of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D's second season.
