Hawaii Five-0 - Kalele - Recap

Ed Asner returns to Hawaii Five-0 to reprise his role as August March, a smart and cunning diamond smuggler who can't be trusted. He's done his time in prison but is he still as dangerous now that he's an old man?

Steve's sister is back in town. She's got a new job as a flight attendant and will be able to come back and visit more often. Is anyone else super distracted by her lips? Her happy visit is short lived after Steve learns Mary has been arrested for smuggling diamonds onto an airplane. Mary tells them a guy with a gun surprised her in her apartment and kidnapped her friend. She was told her friend Angela would be killed if she didn't do what they said.

They enlist the help of August March (Ed Asner) to help save Mary's friend in time. He promises to help them only if they vow to never bother him again. He's able to trace the diamonds back to their original location. They're blood diamonds. Which makes this a lot more dangerous. They catch the guy who held up Mary and he tells them Mary's friend Angela orchestrated the whole thing. It's only a matter of time until she's caught. In the end, August buys the diamonds off her and gives a throwback to his character's violent ways. He kills Angela and walks off with both the money and the diamonds. Guess he's not so nice after all.

Throughout the episode, Danny and the crew hide a gun shaped cake for Steve's birthday. Steve spoils it by going in Danny's car and they end up having to get a grenade cake instead. I think the gun looked tastier. I wouldn't want a cake that's been sitting in a hot Hawaiian trunk either. At this point, I am completely convinced that Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan just ad lib their bromance scenes because they love them so much. They're one of us.
