'Hart of Dixie' Season 4 Premiere Date Moved Up

The CW is bringing back one of its tenured shows a bit early.

The network has pushed up the premiere date for Season 4 of Hart of Dixie.

The show had been scheduled to premiere its 10-episode fourth season on Friday, Jan. 9, but The CW has now decided to use the premiere as a lead-in for the fall finale of Jane the Virgin.

Hart of Dixie Season 4 will premiere at 8:00 PM ET on December 15, ahead of the Jane the Virgin fall finale. The show will then go on a brief hiatus before premiering in its regular time slot on January 9th.

I suppose one could question the wisdom of premiering the show and then immediately putting it on hiatus, but it seems increasingly likely this will be the show's last season, between the reduced episode order, the dodgy ratings and the erratic scheduling. After all, how big of a priority can the show be when its season premiere is being pushed up to accommodate another show? It's a shame because Hart of Dixie is still one of the more charming shows in The CW's lineup, having none of the characteristic bleakness of some of its genre offerings. Hopefully, if this is the last season, Hart of Dixie gets to go out on a high note.
