Hart of Dixie - Season 3 Episode 9 - Recap - Something To Talk About

The CW's small town Southern... drama? Comedy? I dunno, it's not serious enough or funny enough to feel like either. It's enjoyable, don't get me wrong... It's just hard to classify! Anyway, Hart of Dixie is back and everything picks up right where it left off, with all the relationship troubles and joys found in the usual places. Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) is just as bright as ever, almost insufferably so. In fact, I'd probably hate the character in the hands of any other actor, but Bilson does such a superb job playing the NYC transplant that I can't help but be taken in by her!

In the winter break, Zoe's been spending some time getting to know her newfound family, specifically her cousin Vivian. Viv's hungry single eyes may have fallen on Zoe's ex Wade, and Wade certainly has the hots for Vivian. Despite Zoe trying to set Vivian up with anyone else besides Wade, Wade gets there first and asks Vivian out. Their date goes really well, but when Vivian asks what Zoe thinks, she takes Zoe's silence the wrong way. Wade calls for another date and faces rejection, and Zoe's "no comment" policy is probably to blame! Wade confronts Zoe and gets the truth from her, that Zoe doesn't trust Wade to be a decent dude. Good on ya, Zoe Hart! Wade is a jerk! Except oops, Zoe feels super bad about it and has a chat with Vivian to fix the whole thing. Maybe Wade has changed. Maybe.

Meanwhile, Mayor Lavon Hayes recruits George Tucker into the next battle in BlueBell's ongoing war with the neighboring town of Fillmore. The state government has proposed a merging of BlueBell and Fillmore, which Fillmore has decided to support. Meanwhile, George has been avoiding his ex Tansy, who has started dating rival attorney Scoot McGreevey. To prevent the merger, Lavon and George get Tansy on their side. She's got some solid intel that might mean Fillmore supports the deal simply to avoid bankruptcy. After some snooping, Lavon and George discover that the real plan is to annex BlueBell, turning it into West Fillmore! It seems like both towns would have to approve such a thing, but I guess I'll have to suspend my disbelief here while the heroes of the show try to save the town.

Also meanwhile, Brick's artificially-inseminated ex Shelby is starting to feel the stress of her single pregnancy, and she asks (begs, really) Brick to attend a birthing class with her. Shelby misinterprets (and perhaps takes advantage of) Brick's kindness and comes to crash at the Breeland home. Brick's girlfriend flips out when she comes over and sees Shelby, but later, Brick explains the whole thing. Still, he's forced to rethink his relationship to Shelby. Wow I cannot say enough how much I would like to just never think about Brick's romantic life on any level! I miss when Brick was the villain of the show! Now he's a creepy, bumbling old doctor man and it is not as fun!

This was a triumphant return for Hart of Dixie, though the timeslot for the next few weeks means that my recaps get bumped. Lateness aside, I'm glad to be watching the show again! It's still very nice. Everyone is friends and they all get up to crazy antics. I'm excited to see the way the town merger plot develops. Check out the preview below!
